Just something that I have discovered recently, is that you can use plain ol cardboard to sharpen your knives, its free and works surprisingly well, especially if you want a convex edge.

I do it sometimes. It works as long as your knife is not completely dull. It strops the edge and realigns the edge if it has rolled.

I've read that the thick compressed paper backing that you find on the backs of pads of paper works very well. It can be used as is, or even with a little polishing compound rubbed in. I've stuck with leather so far, but I don't see why this wouldn't work. :thumb:
