This is part 3 (Part 1 and 2 are on CS Forums) and I finished it up today with the new Trail Master, It did very well as expected. I did some chopping with it 1st and I still say the older model is better suited due to it being more blade heavy balanced. I battened it though some very dense wood really smacking it hard with the baton and went through some knots also. Again no problems here, the guard held up fine this time confirming the last one was defected. The back of the clip cuts the baton some as it's sharpened so if you plan on doing a lot of splitting you might want to dull it up. I drove it into a stump edge 1st and smacked the handle 5 times with the baton on the side stressing the knife to see if it would hold up, it passed no problem so I don't believe one could break the knife by battening it etc.

I am very pleased with it overall and IMO is held up just as well as my old Carbon V did and I really do believe that the new SK-5 Martemp might even hold an edge better.

Stump I used to stress test the knife.

Knot I pounded it though, Baton shown in the photo.

Another knot I pounded it through.

Shot of the knife after I was done, edge held up great.

Closeup shot of the edge, as you can see no denting or chipping.

Yeah my cameraman would laugh at that one. :D Sort of a long standing joke between us. I'm sure if he sees it he will say something.

I really love the simplicity of that design but I really don't like the guard:o and because of that I don't own one :p

Thanks man. :D

Yes it's simple, but just a little light to be a really great chopper and CS changed the balance point on these.

compare to INFI, how about the retention of sk5?

I think INFI will hold an edge longer, I know it's tougher. :)
