Here is a short video of the katana dingyu sent in or testing. Beautiful katana:rockon:

dingyu: This is not the testing videos so you not missing anything here.

The video is in HD. For the bigger player click on the video and go to you tube. I'm not sure how to embed the full HD player here in the forum.

Madnumforce: I'm going to start out easy and see how it functions first. Them slowly increase the stress. tests will include plenty of slashing,Wood, concrete, flex, body weight test, metal impact and so on. Many of the same tests used with the knives will be used. Most should transfer over to the katana well but I'm dealing with a very long blade compared to the knives. I won't be doing the apple peeling test with this one :D

jankerson: Thanks

dingyu1980: No problem. Thanks or setting this up.

kurodrago: It is nice. :thumb:

dingyu1980: I uploaded it to photo bucket so I hope you can watch it now. The file is to big to email unless you have a big limit on your email account. It's about 70 meg. Let me know if you were able to watch it ? If not I'll try something else.

dingyu: Ok. I'll email it to you then. Thanks

miro44one: It is a beautiful blade. My friends that I have showed it to have all said the same thing. "I'm glad I'm not the one who has to destroy it.":D
This is what it's for though a D-test.

cvnhank: No problem. I plan to test it next month.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Huanuo (Fred Chen) was (and maybe still is) the maker of Cold Steel's katanas and Chinese swords. This certainly has the look of the last generation of CS kats. Not the saya or the furniture, but the overall look of the blade and tsuka.

dingyu: I'm not having any luck emailing you the video. I keep getting an error message back. "can't find host" Not sure what the problem is. verify your email is correct and I'll try again.

I see you edited your email. this is the problem then. I'll try again.

It went through. You should have it now.

It's a video clip from the Home Shopping Network. A $40 Katana broke in half and the tip flew back and hit the guy in the groin area.

Hey, I have a couple of those! They were $10 from SmokyMountainKnifeWorks ~10yrs ago. They came razor-sharp from them. I used one for yard work, slicing through saplings and branches, and a little sword play with a friend. Then one day, we we're tossing fruit (apples, oranges, cantaloupe) to slice, when the blade departed from the handle mid-swing and went flying across the road! Apparently at some point in the past, my use had weakened the WELD where the bolt-tang meets the blade :) We were damn lucky that no cars were hit (nor either of us). I still have the blade, which was in decent shape after the asphalt bouncing, and I'd always intended to drill a couple holes at the end, saw away part of the blade, and rehandle it as a thick machete :p
