View Full Version : S&W Bullseye Folder
Not really a test, but ...
I got this knife for free a while back, and it's been sitting on a shelf ever since. As I was walking out to the yard to relax and take in the evening, I figured I'd play with it a bit. The scales are made from some kind of hard plastic, so I thought I'd do some light prying on a half-rotted log to see how they held up to it. The good news: the scales did fine. The bad news: the blade didn't.
I stuck the tip into a crevice and pryed lightly. Off it went. Oh, well. I stuck the rest of the blade in and pryed lightly. It snapped like a twig.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police still carry S&W guns tho =/ Go figure... (revolvers too)
Well at least the scales held up. :p I'll say my RAO is a little better. :D Thanks for posting the results.

I think those S&W knives area a bit of a hit and miss proposition. About a dozen guys at work had bought the SWAT folders. In their section it was a bit of a fad. Some were fine, others developed wobbly blades after relatively short usage. I would say all of them were used (played with) equally. The same with some of the HRT folders. I remember on the forums we had over here a few of the regulars bought the same type of folder. I can't recall the exact model, but all reported similar things. Some had blade play some didn't after a while. I guess the breakage then comes as no surprise.
It's interesting that S&W licence the use of their name to a product that that has by many reports a substandard reputation. I suppose the bucks in the licencing deal are very lucrative. Colt do the same. Another hit and miss proposition with their knives.

I had one of those, traded it off and I think I have the better end of the bargain. Another guy at my work used his daily, edge didn't hold very long (although 440C) and the clip broke off after 2 months. Generally all "gun-knives" are crappy hype, except Browning.

I have a few SWATs (Standard, Framelock, Carbon Fiber). The CF one is in pieces until I get a chance to trim the liner lock down, that was too long from the factory. The other two are great. Fantastic lockup. Both open with a flick of the thumb. I've used them quite a bit, with no sign of blade play. The framelock rusts worse than carbon steel though. Not sure why.

I'm not sure of the whole story. But a while back S&W was sold to a British group. They licensed the name to Taylor to use on knives. Later, S&W was returned to an American company, but Taylor still had the rights to use the brand. I think that's right.

You're welcome bro, besides that, there was a limited run of Emerson CQC 10 made for HK
Eh, just broke another one trying to dig a bullet out of a log. Tip snapped. The blade now has play, and is scraping the frame when closing.
Given I paid a grand total of $3 for this knife, but I actually liked it.
