Just curious if anybody thinks the new San Mai III SRK can out perform and outlast the mighty A1? Any thoughts on VG1 vs VG10?.....What about the outer metals?......Is their a diff in the laminating processes between the two companies? I believe the A1 has a convex grind[I could be wrong]. The pic I seen of the SMiii SRK looks kinda weird, looks kinda like it was hollow ground a bit, but probably just saber........I'm trying to decide between the two:D:D
I have no experience with San Mai III so I can't personally can't answer this.
Other members here own it and have used it so hopefully they will tune in here.

Too late I already purchased the SRK SMIII. It is a very good looking knife, it feels great in hand, and its a pretty good chopper IMO for its size. I do have a few complaints though....
(1) The sheath is advertised to have 2 snaps, but I say it has 3
(A) when you insert the blade it snaps
(B) the strap w/snap button and
(C) the snap you here if you rely on just the first snap which doesn't work and your blade goes tumbling to the floor!(if you carry inverted)
(2) The Kraton handle is junk. The knife is fairly well balanced and I couldn't help myself so I had to throw it a few times. After a few throws the handle was loose and finger guard was cracked...yeah, yeah I know the knife wasn't designed to hurl it at a tree, but it still should of held up better than that. Maybe Noss needs to ad a "chunkin a knife at a tree" section to the d-test cause I've torn up a few like that.
(3) The blade felt VERY sharp out of the box and could make confetti very quickly out of magizines, however when I tried to cut some webbing similar to the stuff Noss uses it had a hard time. I remember Noss having a hard time w the Carbon V model as well. If any of you guys know why a razor sharp knife can't cut very well be sure and let me know cause it doesn't make since to me. Any ways I guess I'll try a Busse next time!
it feels great in hand
They are comfortable knives. Fallknivens' handles don't fit me at all. Scrawny little things I tell ya.

Geometry.
Fallkniven vs CS is always an interesting debate. A bit of backstory. Fallkniven wasn't always a "knife maker". They were the European distributor for Cold Steel. They then decided to sell their own stuff instead. Their own stuff originally being close copies of CS stuff likely made on CS's own machinery under the table in the Japan. Their connection is readily apparent in a lot of their blades. That said the San Mai III SRK and Fallknivens' knives in it's image are both made in Japan, likely side by side.
Anyway, the SRK would get my vote (even though it's over) based on comfort alone.

I had a SRK Carbon V for a log time--never used it for heavy tasks mainly I was concerned about
the Handle getting loose--decided to get a new stainless model Aus 8A to be used for light work
and corrosion resistance--food prep and others things--would have preferred the SanMai lll
with the satin finish--feel more confident washing and cleaning---It was not available at the time.
Also have A1 which I like even more--but still had same concern about the handle -so I bought
an A1 Blade Blank and had a guy put black micarta scales on which makes it a really solid knife
and very durable.

While I'm rambling on I will add--to satisfy my concern about the handle I just
got an Entrek Survivor (after watching the vids) and this seems to offer what
I need in this size knife. Still really like my A1 with the micarta scales.

Just to clarify that--the Entrek will relace the SRK not my A1---but as is known the Entrek sheath has a lot to be desired. I have something I can use that works fine for
what I need.
