The CRKT Ultima 5" shear point combo edge looks like an very intersting knife to test. I haven't seen and knives from CRKT (Columbia River Knife & Tool) being test yet. This would be a very good one to start. It has a butt pry tip as an extension of the blade tang, with a rounded tip that is equally useful opening a junction box or breaking a window.
This thing I like about this knife is the innovative handle and the over-engineered shealth but I really want to know if the blade, being the most important element of all, is good enough for the destruction test!
Cheers and great work!!!! :D

Zen and LLaw i bid you heartily, frankly, warmly, furryly, and congenially welcome to the forum!!!!
For those of us (like me) too lazy to look stuff up on Google here is the link they are talking about: http://www.crkt.com/ultima.html
Tbh the handle looks funky, the serrations are nice: i'd like one myself I think... However I dont know about this steel type... maybe someone else will have more experience with it.
Sure why not? It does look sexy...

Ya know Thecarotidpulse, I find these knife test quite fascinating, and the way people defend their favorite knifemaker as if they were their child even more fascinating. So this Noss cat, you think he's alright and all there? He's kinda scary looking with that Hockey Mask on. It takes some getting used to but I have to agree with some of the others, I think he's making and may continue to make an impact on the cutlery industry here. I have watched the cutlery industry and the blade quality explode over many years. I have also followed CR designs for years. I gotta believe that because of those two tests there is bigtime damage to the reputation of CRK. Bigtime damage thats gonna put the future of that particular knife line at risk. Based on those tests I feel those $300+ CRK were clearly to weak for their price point and what they are marketed for. Fascinating stuff.
Thanks for the note and thanks for the welcome.

Zen... Some good points you bring up there. I think it's a matter of people wanting to believe in their knives, in their knife makers. A lot like they believe in religion.
If you believe in your knife, it becomes like your lucky socks. You are able to do m ore not because it is necessarily superior but because you are confident. (as long as your knife doesn't suck)
Sometimes it IS just a case of the knife being superior.. but you get my drift.
A lot of people have said that the tests are irrelevant to CR knives because they are designed to be harder so as to perform as superior cutting tools... However they are marketed as more than just cutters: they are marketed as quasi indestructible.
Also the breaks werent just a result of steel type... anyone that watched the vids can see that it's a design flaw.
You'll see knifemakers as mods in forums shun Noss's results.. for whatever reason they choose. But the people see... and the people learn with somewhat instictive "gut-feeling" wether the knife is good for them or no.
By theway I enjoyed your post about the tantos... I prefer drop-point myself but hey why not.
Anyway Noss actually wears a Paintball mask- with a fan inside it (recent addition of the fan).
llaw019 , llaw019 Welcome to the forum.
I'll look into this knife. Thanks.

Ya, a drop point on a well made blade with the right handle makes an attractive knife.

llaw019 , llaw019 Welcome to the forum.
I'll look into this knife. Thanks.
You will find that the spine on this knife increases in width the closer it gets to the tip.
Also, you might look into this website, its an interesting concept.

Last, people are attacking you for what you are doing. That's always going to happen when you put yourself out there like you are. You have attracted a lot of different personalities to rip, praise and mull over your tests. Continue to stay consistant and thorough and I think this will continue to grow.
I believe the tests are a useful teaching tool that are helping consumers make choices that are best for them.
Congrats on what you have created and acheived.

Yes, I agree about the impact of these tests : it is funny to see how Chris reeve is not so much praised today in forums. Few people say these tests are not relevant because you never use a knife so thoughly. But no one can deny that these test really allow to see a knife' limit. I agree with Zenlifer : it does help the consummer.

Noss I agree with zenlifter that you are doing the knife buying community a favour! Ok maybe a few fanboys are having a bad time (good, get over it boys!!) but if CRK fans don't like the results tell Chris Reeves to sort the temper out not bitch at the guy who pointed out the flaw!
On that CRKT Ultima I think the test will go.. apple; ok. Webbing; ok. Impact- wack snap.. swear! ;)
