View Full Version : NMFBM Solo Camping Trip Photos
Well I finally got to go camping yesterday for the night to give the NMFBM a good work out.
The knife is one serious workhorse. It got the job done quick. It was a ton of fun chopping and batoning with it.
This was the fist time I have used it for batoning. Man this blade kicks ass at it. I split some long sections of wood almost 2.5 feet long x 4 round The rounded spine was nice since it didn't tear up the baton much.
Here are some photos for you to enjoy. :thumb:

Uh... That's hard work. I certainly should round the spine on my CGFBM, I have some baton destroying issues. That's a wise improvement they made on the NMFBM. Nothing is a match to a BM... well, as long as you have strong enough batons.

Don't know how it is for Noss, but I can tell you on mine the edge lasts forever. :thumb:

Jealous! Big time! I will have one or a scrapyard DF. I am becoming more and more a big blade guy. After putting my Kabar Heavy Bowie and the SP5 thru their paces I was amazed at how easy it is to chop and how much bigger of a log you can baton. But the shocker Was the A1 and how it ate many of the same log sizes as well in Oak, Sugar Maple and Ash...this is some hardwood!!! My RC5 did fair...I expected more as I mentioned in another post. I did nick my Kabar...DAMN IT! So last night I took a course stone followed by the fine side and hand honed the nick out. But in my inexperience sharpening I dulled the blade...I am ok with it because I am in the learning stages. So what is and how do I sharpen the big blades right. Whats do you guys recommend.
I have scoured the forums on sharpening and it is all over the map! Edge Pro is some tall cabbage! So it is out the Gatco or Lansky seems like they cant handle large blades very easily and the sharpmaker from spyderco is tricky. Other than sending the blade out what else can I do? I am considering the Spyderco and just learning it. I wouldn't dare do the A1 for it is a convex grind and that is even trickier. Some one mention a mouse pad for it. But the A1 isnt dull at all and I used it the most! It held its edge nice considering the wood and amount of use (I used it 2x more than any other knife I was batonning with...I had 5 knives with me I tested in all...and kept seeing how the A1 would do after either the Kabar or SP5 did something well). Anyway I am also considering the Gatco or Lansky...many like the gatco better but harder to find. These are really only good for saber or flat grinds. Oh and one last thing any nice quick touch up sharpeners? The Kabar and the SP5 are flat grinds I believe...once again a quick sharpener will ruin a convex grind as well as a gatco/lansky or even an edge pro for they can only do fixed angles. sorry for the long response...I will post it over in the sharpening section as well.

Excellant pics Noss, you should be a promo-man for Busse :thumb:, they have a great product, but as mentioned they are high-priced, I guess they do alright, but I might think about lowering the price and selling more of them...

They wouldn't be INFI steel if he lowered the price. ;)
When they were in production the prices were:
CG NMFBM = $467
NMFBM LE = $797

Yea guess so, I suppose the other lower priced models and spin-offs (scrapyard...etc) fill the role/market to a wider audience.....I was thinking more like Henry Ford, mass produce a good product with affordability, and take over the market :D Great looking Pics....great looking knives :thumb:

man,
i mean the test changed my Philosophy of using a knife that it is a cutting tool.
after waching the tests, i know i am fall in love with that huge blade.
:thumb:
so, thanks to Noss did lots and offered the forum to us.
cool.
:D

It's very good. I do dig with mine though so I tend dull them a little faster. I always carry a folding DMT stone with me so I can touch it up if needed. INFI is not hard to sharpen. After all the work I needed to sharpen it some.
miro44one: I trying to get it done. It shouldn't be to much longer.
soapboxpreacher: I just use DMT stones to sharpen my big knives but I'm looking at getting an edge pro system. I also have a water cooled machine to sharpen knives but my wheel is dead on it. So I no longer use it at this time.
Thanks everyone.:):thumb:

Camping is fun no matter the knife!
This summer was a scorcher; I am looking forward to camping this fall.
It was so hot I couldn't sleep, just walked around the woods all night until it cooled down early in the morning : (

True, but using my knives out in the woods is something I look forward to when going camping.

I was talking with a local heat treater who really know his shit. Showed him my FFBM. His opinion is that INFI is actually ferritic inconel, (perhaps with infused nickel). After showing me all the spec on it, knowing the properties of the Busse from experience and from Busse, I am inclined to agree. If that is so, we're talking about a VERY expensive material even at the raw stage. My friend said that by the time you factor in all the manufacturing overhead costs, machining, man hours, and availability of material, they are not making as much profit on the finished blades as you might think.

I have my few hours of experience by using Busse knive...but I still not find justification for the price.
Busse Knife Co profile ....
http://www.manta.com/c/mm4vs80/busse-knife-co
They Annual Sales (Estimated) 3,200,000$ not counting the second market!
Busse between limitation of their product & INFI supersteel story...
Busse made a very smart business.
Despite How much he pay for infi steel
"by the way, becouse business is good, my private contract with the company who make INFI for me Busse Co, with time already a lot is even better"
I wonder how many people understand this concert!!
Busse knive they worth the money?
From a collector poinview, the response is YES!
From a user point of view, the responce is NO!
WAY not? Becouse I still pay the exstra collection money that I'm not Interested to pay too.
A more easier see through answer is... "depends how much is you paycheck each month"!?
My South American friend, who make something between 300$ to 500$ a month, will think that I'm crazy own a Busse knife.:D
When it comes to the customer side of things price is what one thinks it's worth. I'm not sure what the Busse hard cost is ? But I feel my FBM's are worth what I payed. Of course when I show people these knives and tell them the price their jaw drops to the floor. I only own 3 knives that are over 300 bucks. Most of mine are around the 50 dollar and cheaper range.
