The recent Douk/Opinel thread has me in the mood to post my two most common edc Opies. I have a couple dozen all told, but these get carried the most. A #8 carbon that I screwed up the tip on so I filed the back to get a new tip (and gave a slight convex edge), and a #12 carbon I cut down to a compact sheepsfoot:

Custom Opinels I love it! I must admit I have a soft spot for classic knives. No hype. Knives that have been doing their job quietly for decades.

Nice modifications there, I especially like the Sheepsfoot. I myself only own a #8 in Carbon steel, very nice knife for the price.

Thanks. :thumb: I learned a lot working on Opinels. They're cheap enough to practice various things on (like reshaping blades, filework/jimping, sharpening, minor woodworking, etc.). They also respond well to the files, being only mid-50s HRC (at least the carbon ones).

So true, when I find my screwed up carbon Opinel #7, you will see the homework I had done to learn sharpening.
