Hi guys,

In my lengthy quest to convince my Better Half to let me get a Fallkniven, I was wondering if you had a fav model in the catalogue.

Also apparently the new H1 hunting knife has a new steel: "3G" steel said by the maker to be "the best steel in the world". Any ideas on this? or reviews?

Wondering too if the 3 G model is still laminated. It would make a good test methinks... or at least a field test, no destruction.

Are all the Fallkniven blades convex edged? Well really all I want to know is that the F1 (the one i'm really looking at) is convexed.

To me i'd be looking to that company to provide me with an extra sharp sheath knife that will stand up to abuse - however it will be a backup to a kuk or a machete or an axe, so doesn't have to be too big. (that being said I still want an RTAK, lol)

Fitting that bill i'm really looking at the F1 and H1... I like both their shapes and their sizes seem about right.

Laterz,

I think all of them are Convex Edged. I have never used 3G Steel, but cutlerylover says quite a bit about it in this video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=pMojtswKe3I

Hello carotidpulse,

I think the F1 is more flat grind knife than convex (well, better to check this assertion). A colleague of mine (custom officer) got a F1 and it is very effective for a knife of this size : cuts well (from carton boxes to ropes, can go through metal sheets), easy to sharpen, a strong tip, a comfortable handle which won't get loose. I'd rather choose a leather sheath than a kidex one (I don't like those made by fallkniven, I think they are ugly).
I got a fallkniven folder (U I think) made from 3G : it cuts like hell and stays sharp very long. I did not find it so hard to sharpen , though it is more than 60 HRC (i think...).
As far as I am concerned, Fallkniven is one of the best industrial brand : my favorite knife is the ODIN (8" blade) and it the best chopper/cutter I know for this size. The convex grind is wonderfull, it allows indifferently heavy work or accurates jobs, from battoning to cutting harm.
I think you won't be disapointed.

I have a TK3, haven't really used it yet. Sharp as hell, don't think it's convex though. I think 3G stands for 3 layers, like SanMai. Moreover, I've been told the 3G steel is soft from the inside, and hard on the outside, dunno for sure, gotta check it out. 62Rc IIRC.

I can only vouch for the A1. Whatever model you choose I say go for it. :thumb:

Yes, I forgot : just look at how the A1 broke and how versatile it is.

they seem like some of the best made knives today.
I think they all have convex edges although I don't know about the actuall grind.
may be flat.
but they do have a really nice factory edge, so I hear.
most of the fixed blades use the same steel, with just a different design so I would go with whatever you think would fit your needs best.

From a web-site.

The 3G blades are made from a sandwich of hard SGPS steel hardened to RC 62 surrounded by soft VG2 stainless for toughness and corrosion resistance. 4" 3G laminated blade, 8 3/8" overall, Thermorun handle black leather sheath.

Hi, I just got back from a trip to the Balkans, I took my A1 and U2 Fallkniven with me. Great knives :) no problems with both in Kydex sheet handmade with fire steel. I was camping out for 2 weeks so I used them real good.

Thanks lsutigers1010 for posting one of nutnfancy's videos. He is a true professional reviewer and has a very good deal of knowledge. I have watched most all of his videos and have bought several of his reviewed items. He def lets you know the pros and cons of each design. Highly recommended.
