Lets talk about sere skills, ideas, and gear.
I'm luck to have alot of airforce and navy pilots around me and I ask them alot about sere.
My grandpa told me they didn't issue him a survival kit for his a4, a1, or f9f but the made one.
He also told me that they didn't have water proof matches back then so he would dip the heads in wax.
He told me the S and the E's were fine but the R was the hard part.
He said after the survival section big buses rolled up and guys got out in eastern uniforms and said they were now captured.
They interogated and whipped them for hours.
I moved my PSK and some other gear into a german army bread bag which I use for E&E type training.
I will post pictures when I'm back to fast internet.
What knife would you use for SERE?
It has to be one you own.

Well, there are many works of litterature on Survival, some on Resistance and even less in Evasion and Escape.
The topic that the likes of us'd have to deal with more IMHO:
Survival
remember your basic 5 priorities:
Positive Mental Attitude
Shelter
Water
Fire
Food
I think that this discussion is too broad to fit in one thread, I'll try to put up some ideas for specific ideas like "what's your fav sort of shelter"
However I can say here that the knife i'd use is the Gerber LMF II - because it's a sheath knife that I picked for specifically that use. It's tough, and the integrated sharpener is ftw.
The only thing that'll trump it is the Fallkniven F1 i'm getting... soon I hope (You wouldn't believe how hard it is to convince people that a mere 7 folders and 3 sheaths is a paltry number of knives- lists from pple on this forum help =)
Evasion? well it's all about leaving the least tracks possible. I dont believe the whole thing about walking in a river bed, unless it's to mask scent if youre being chased by dogs.
If humans are chasing you, they'll tell where you went in, and if you're not carefull where you dripped over all the riverbank getting out.
Not to mention the rocks you'd have upturned on the way. I saw a thing about masking your traces by following natural animal trails, smearing your boots with poop to mask your scent.
Resistance? element of surprise ftw. Outsmart the trackers.
Escape, erm get some dentures like that Jaws guy in James Bond.
KK that's it for now, i want to post a thing on water filters.

My grandpa told me that some of his fellow fighter pilots ate some macadamia nuts they found and got diareha.
Words to the wise, dont eat shit without cooking it.

All I was issued in the Air Force was a piece of shit USAF standard issue knife. I ended up getting a Randall Model #1 myself. This was back in the day when there was no waiting period. I gave that knife to my replacement with instructions to continue the tradition. By now some dumb **** retired Air Liaison Officer has it rusting away in his sock drawer. The rest of my gear was parachutist and radio comm oriented. We didn't carry a whole hell of a lot. Air Force guys on the ground had to beg, borrow, and steal to make ends meet. Nevertheless, Air Force E&E training was a lot better than most of the Army guys I worked with. They usually got caught pretty quick. It would take them an hour or two to catch up with me. Air Force survival school wasn't just survival basics. We went through a pretty intense POW scenario as well as E&E. Don't get the wrong impression about me. I was no ****ing lifer. I couldn't wait to get the hell out of there before someone got me permanently maimed or killed. It's the Italian side of me that came to my senses. It was the Irish side of me that got me in a world of shit to begin with. But what I learned I have kept over the years. Uncle Sam paid a lot of money to teach me how to take care of myself.

Thats what my grandpa was issued to.
Still has it today.
My grandpa told me that one day they figured they would fly over to a Air Force base and idk, hang out in the BOC or something.
He said that naval air bases were rusting hunks of junk and that air force bases were sparkling new with golf courses and the works.

I didn't know we had a survival forum!
Remember for evasion and escape, don't follow a pattern if you suspect you are being tracked. Sometimes it is easy to think you are evading the trackers when you are really being deliberately herded into a trap.
I don't know how this relates to everyday life, but who knows? If the SHTF it's good to be prepared.:thumb:

Mantracker is an awesome show, I've watched all the episodes I can find on youtube. I would also love to go on it but it seems like the camera crew would make it a lot easier to be tracked and moving undetected would be way harder. If it was not for that I'm pretty sure I could get away, you would just have to play off of the weaknesses of the horses and go where a horse would have a hard time. In my opinion it would be harder to get away from people on foot like the in the Chris Ryan show.
