I've been a big fan of SOG for a number of years but lately I'm beginning to have my doubts. I would be curious to see how their Taiwan knives that used to be manufactured in Japan would hold up under abuse.

I would like to see Noss testing the newer SOG SEAL knives that use the AUS8 instead of the older AUS6. It doesnt even have to be done underwater. I really want to know how SOG compares with the other knives in its class.

I don't think there would be much difference, the new seal knife is pretty tough.

I can't say that for the Fusion line, I hear lots of news that the tomahawks and throwing knives are easy to break.

I want to see that SOG Recon. It's the one that is a replica of those used by MACV-SOG commandos in Vietnam. It's SK-5 steel, which I know nothing about at all.

Shit, I keep hitting the wrong button. I can't get used to the mod squad controls.

Anyway.....

I've owned the Recon and the SCUBA/DEMO. If you go to their website you will find an article on these knives used by SOG in Vietnam. The Recon was also reproduced by Al Mar many years ago. SOG has recently stopped manufacturing the RECON and the SCUBA/DEMO. Anyway, the original SOG Recon knives came from various manufacturers throughout the East and is a good design. As for the SCUBA/DEMO, it looks great but the AUS8 is a pain to sharpen right but I love both of them. Its a shame that demand went down and they quit making them. I should have kept mine. I had a SCUBA/DEMO done up in Duracoat jungle tiger stripe. Mike Stewart hated it.

That camo knife got sold to help pay for a Savage/Rizzini "Milano" shotgun.

I'd give anything to have an original. They are just too expensive and rare, though.

edit: That knife is kick-ass awesome.

I don't know about other blades in the SOG fusion line but the jungle Primitive it a piece of junk. :thumbdwn: There are so many more, better choices for the 50 bucks they ask for it.

Its one of kind. I miss it. I like to think it is spending time in a sniper hide some place.
