if you get the chance would you do tests on either the rat cutlery rc3 or rc4. I am thinking about buying one or the other. Please use rat cutlery ones and not the ones from ontario knife company as they are trying to put rat cutlery out of business.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum Ktomes!
Yeah those would make great tests.
You might want to check out a post by "sharp" in the forum section on "share your own knife tests!" on "medium sized fixed blades".
Sharp and "cloak and dagger" do a great comparative analysis including one of those knives which may be quite beneficial.

This would be nice. The RC-6 will also be coming out soon, maybe a better choice. The RC-4 is also a winner though.

I really like the new look Jeff is putting into his knives over at RAT Cutlery. He has made some nice upgrades from his former Ontario collaboration. Sheaths are a big + and i have read that he has changed the Tempering of his 1095. one post over at his forums state the ability of one knife to bend to 50 degrees and return true. If this is fact, that is some serious strength.
I am still awaiting for a 7+ knife. I dont think I will be able to resist such. But for know bring on the RC-4 destruction. :D

30 degrees bending (no, I'm not talking soap bars:p)is shown on their website. IIRC RC3 has a 15 degrees primary bevel whilst the RC4's is 20 degrees.
Anyway, I'm dying to see Noss holding a pink Izula:rockon:

Well, hey... Rat Cutlery knives are differentially heat treated so this should be quite a test.
I believe they have knives in the price range only second to Scrap Yard.

Yep, I though so too.
Rowen knives does a really good job. I believe they also make the 1095 knives for TOPS Knives.
However, some of the larger knives (RC-5+ and most of TOPS Knives) are not differentially heat treated. TOPS used to have Steel Eagles with differentially heat treated 5160.
I know for sure that the RC-3 is Diff HT.

Wow, that was BAD! I have heard about Ontarios breaking really easy before though. Yes, that' s why you should make sure you buy a RAT Cutlery, not an Ontario.

Look like there wasn't any tempering at all! I don't understand how such a breakage can happen... it means a total and awfull mess in the HT. That's bad publicity for Ontario. On the other hand, i think Rat's are a bit overpriced for a simple 1095 steel. But as no one seems to complain about them, i guess it's worth it.

They are on the cheaper side IMO when compared to other offerings.
I D-tested D2 in the Ka-bar extreme it didn't do to bad and survived rougher testing then that Ontario knife.
