View Full Version : A Newbie and an Oldie
Just got this Busse SAR-5. Tan/Sage. JRE Leather sheath.
I know Jerry hates it, but in my opinion it's the best Busse design I've held. Probably won't keep it, but it's a really nice knife.

One of my EDCs for the last year or so. Rough Rider Small Stockman. Paid about $7 for it shipped. My most used and carried knife.

Lucky bastard. Dunno when I'll hold a Busse in my hands, so don't even mention owning one :(

The SAR-5 is an excellently designed knife in my opinion. It fits my hand very well. Too bad it was an accident and won't be made again.
The RR Stockman has remained in my pocket despite the comings and goings of knives costing 20 or 30 times as much. It takes a hair flinging edge and holds it just fine. I have aboutr a dozen RRs (mostly $4 seconds) and all are excellent quality.
In comparison to a SAK, I'd definately give the quality edge to RR, though obviously an SAK with the right tools is much handier. This is coming from a SOSAK member whos combined Vics and Wengers has exceeded the the triple digit mark.

I retired my Victorinox Traveler(Huntsman, Micro Maglite and ruler/compass) since I got my Fenix P3D. Now I carry a SwissLite in my wallet, the only thing I miss is the bottle opener:D:D:D Planning to retire the SwissLite as well once the SOG PowerAssist is released.
As for an oldfashioned pocketknife, I have none. Carried several Opinels, Fred Perrin Quattro and Fällkniven TK4, now they are all in the drawler.
Kiahs, take a look at the Laguioles, you might like them.

I'ver never owned a Laguiole, but have thought about picking one up. I have a certain affection for simple traditional knives. I usually carry a one-hander too, but use the traditional for most things. My real first knife was a Schrade Uncle Henry Stockman, and I haven't found a more perfect knife style yet. Clip, Spey, and Sheepsfoot rolled up into a nice little package. I still have that knife 15 some odd years later, and still carry it. It looks and functions the same as the day it came out of the box.
I carried an Opinel #6 for a long time, but got tired of the tip bending if I looked at it funny and the siezing of the blade if it got wet. The Garden Knife is an excellent design, and I keep meaning to pick another one up since I lost mine. My main use knives in the kitchen are my Opinel carbon paring knives.
Two less talked about bargains in traditional knives are the KC and Boker Sodbusters. Dirt cheap with carbon blades and an excellent design.

Excellent. I've heard Strider makes some good gentleman's knives so cheap that makes regular Opinels like pricey:p
