View Full Version : Black Sable
Just got this Today. Cold Steel Black Sable.
Roller lock (lockback). San Mai III blade. Scales are black micarta. Bolsters and liners are titanium.
This is a nice freakin' knife. Big beefy handle. Thick, solid lock. Nice blade shape. The blade is thick, but tapers to a needle point. The sharpest knife I've seen out of the box. It's very comfortable, and the undersized clip is barely noticable while holding, and makes it look like a much smaller knife clipped to your pocket.
The lockup is rock solid with a very reassurring snap when opened.

I've handled this knife before, not my cup of tea. Glad you enjoy it. More of a collector's item than an EDC blade... but imagine the slashing damage
PS in contrary to most other knifes, the high polish looks very classy on this one.
Great catch, have fun

The ergos are spot on for my hands. I shall deanimate potato chip bags with authority now. :D
The mirror polish looks great on this blade, but I imagine it will take on scratches very easily considering the 420j outer layers. If I end up keeping it, it will probably get a satin finish.

Definately a great catch. I traded an SRK for it, and considering I got that knife in a lot, and more than made my money back on the others, the Sable was basically free plus a bit of profit.:D

Finally CS has got an eye for details, love the artistic curvey clip:rockon: IIRC there's a little piece you use to the spare clip holes, right?
I remember there was a lot of force required to open as well as to close. More was needed to open than to close, just like the Gunsite I handled that day. It has to be said, the Gunsite has a stronger lock!!!
Oh, the flower is a nice touch, sir.

Not that I know of. If there is, I didn't get one. I may make one. A litlle piece of orange G-10 would look nice in there.

It doesn't flick open like a lot of folders, but it doesn't really require much strength to open or close.

I'll disagree on this one. They share the same lock. I believe the Sable's may be thicker though. According to CS's video, the Gunsite can take 135 lbs of dead weight at the handle mid-point before giving out. The Sable can take 200 at the same point.

A rose would have looked better, but my bushes aren't blooming right now. :)
