I got bored one day and felt like smothering my knives in some vinegar. Here are the results.

Beautiful patinas, how did you them?

Actually the Snakeskin/razor wire/ however you want to call it patina was done completely by accident.

I actually used Tabasco Sauce since it's basically vinegar.

What I did was the accident. I didn't like the idea of dipping my YKLE completely in vinegar (smell would be on the handles for weeks), so instead I applied the sauce to, you would have never guessed, a paper towel (Bounty to be specific) and wrapped the vinegary towel for several hours. The parts were you see dark are the areas were there was full contact of the Tabasco sauce from the towel to the surface of the knife. The patterned area is due to very light pressure and texture of the towel. I very lightly wrapped the blade.

It's not perfect, but man does it look SWEET!! :D

The MM patina is extremely simple but it is a two stage patina process. I basically just carefully doused the Tabasco sauce on the knife (one side) in a tiger striped manner. After an an hour or two the patina on one side is finished. Repeat the other side.

I'll see if I can get a tutorial, though I doubt it because I don't have any other knives to patina. :D

a paper towel (Bounty to be specific)

The Quilted quicker picker upper! - Bounty! (knife sold separately)

HAHAHA!!!!!

Indeed, Bounty has more uses. :D

If you guys don't mind, I would love to see the outcome of what you guys do with patinas on your knives on this thread. :thumb:

I did one on a Mora Classic just now, for the first patina, where i tried to really make a pattern, it turned out pretty well. I' ll post pics later:cool:

BTW, has anyone ever used mustard?

Here is one:

did it with Vinegar first, than used mustard to really get a pattern into the stripes.
I' m pretty satisfied with the results, though I think the ricasso(spelled correctly?) area needs some colour..I' ll do that sometime, too.

Excellent job there.

It reminds of the wood land camo usually seen for hunting gear.

Very well done :thumb:.

Do you know how it's gonna hold up to use? Mine's been pretty good for me, the MM that is. The area around the edge is starting to wear away but that's expected. I think mainly from me stropping the knife so frequently. :D

Thanks!
I don' t know how it' ll hold up yet, all I really cut with it since I did the patina was hair and paper, to test how sharp it was:D
