Having owned a few shitty folders, and some good ones, I would like to see some hard testing on folders of all values. Something like a simple Buck or a Mini-Griptilian all the way up to a Boker.

I know there are tons of knives that you have in mind for fixed blade testing, this is just fo0d for thought.

Maybe just focus on smaller folders, single-blade under 3".

Izan: Welcome to the forum. I hope to be able to test a few folders soon. I'm going to start with some low cost ones and move up from there.

one that I recomend testing is the kershaw vapor.
you've had one, so I'm sure you know, that it's a sturdy knife.
I batoned mine through some pretty hard wood and it has some play because all the stress dented the back of the blade!
and it's not to hard to get an edge on, given it's not too dull.

my dad uses mine now and it's the first one of my folders he has really got acustomed to using.

Thank you for the welcome, Noss. The news about the folder tests is great. Do you think you would use the same guidelines as fixed blade testing? I assume other than locking mechanism strength and over all blade stability, everything would be the same.

Hi ya Izan. Welcome. Good point you made. Many survivalists recommend a folder as the survival knife you should have rather than a large fixed blade. So why shouldn't the test be the same? If a folder stands up to half the extreme use in the tests than it must be a mighty good design.

Lock failure is something I have always been interested in. Tests where weight is applied is fine partly. BUT. The advertised end use for many folders as a fighter is interesting. Liner locks have released when the hand grip has inadvertantly released the lock. That happening negates how thick or strong or what material the liner is made of. Doesn't matter how big your gun is if it misfires!

Noss, what guideline will you be using.
Is it similiar to the one I posted?

pshh!
mac, your guidlines were only good after I made them good.
:D
lol
jk, I just rmemeber something about maybe getting like dirt in the lock or something to see how it responds.

other than that, I think it should be like the fixed blade test only slimmed down, since honestly, folder can't do what fixed blades can.
