View Full Version : Where to get

I've used the search feature, and it didn't really help me with this question. I have always been a fan of the tests that are performed. Many don't like them. Many just think that people find them amusing.

I, however, do not find these amusing, I find them rather informative.

Anyway, what I am trying to get at .. is .. Where can I buy a Scrapyard Scrapper 6? I can't find a place on the net. Are they not made anymore? Are they not sold anymore? If anyone can give me a link or a place to buy one I would be greatful, thanks.

Hey The game!

So you don't find the tests amusing? A lot of us here watch them with popcorn and save on rentals =D

Ok to answer your question: although I don't own any of the Scrapyard/Busse/Swamprat knives this is what I know about them. THey are 3 lines of knives that are offshoots of Busse Combat knives.
Busse is the big brother that makes the bigger more expensive more resilient knives, closely followed by the other 2.

These companies make knives in limited time runs of knives.
They will announce a model being made on their website and you have say 2 weeks or whatever it is for that knife to order one. Then they ship it to you.
THey only make one or two models of knife at a time.

If you want to buy one, you can either wait for it to come up on the Scrapyard online store, or you can buy them second hand (still as good I hear) from a forum like Blade forums.

However I advise against buying from another site like Ebay as some sellers there pray on the not very knife savy public and inflate prices.

Does this answer your question?

Other than that, welcome to one of the last OPEN MINDED knife forums in existance. I sincerely think you will enjoy your time here, and invite you to perhaps post a quick introduction to yourself and your knive collection (big or small !) in "what knives do you own?"

We don't juge here and it helps us all know each other and get to understand what each of our personnalities are like!

Well Said Pulseman. Welcome to the forum Thegame. Hope you find your stay both educational and amusing. I sure have. Lot of great guys over here who are not trigger happy to bash or hype. Just a bunch of knife lovers supporting one another.
Pulseman answered your question quite well, good luck on your search.

The best place to get any Bussekin knive is on the Blade Forum Exchange, that is if they have been released before. Check the Scrap Yard Store, Busse Combat Store, Busse Combat Knives, and Swamp Rat Store.

Alright, thanks for the help guys. I looked there and I didn't find one currently for sale (Blade forums) however the ones that were recently sold went for $200, which is a little more than what I was willing to pay for them. I was hoping $140 or less.

I will look again when I am actually going to buy it, sometime around Christmas. Maybe they will have one than.

Unfortunately it will be very hard to find a scrapper 6 for under $140 because sellers know that people are willing to pay much more.

My advice would be to keep checking the exchange on bladeforums periodically because every so often one will come up for cheap. If you don't mind buying used sometimes you can get a good deal.
Good luck.

I don't have a problem with spending more at all, I just didn't want to. Noone ever wants to spend that much.

So I don't have to start a new thread, are there any knives out there that are similiar to the Scrapper 6 that I can buy? (Don't have to be a product of a big name or anything.)

Other members will know of many more but I think the Cold Steel SRK, the bigger Recon Scout, or the Fallkniven A1 while not as tough, would be excellent choices.

I actually have heard poor things about the SRK, and the D test didn't show it to be that great...

The A1 on the other hand you will not be disappointed with.

Other than that, my advice to you is this:

First off decide (and post) what you want the knife for/to do. IF you want the Busse/Scrapyard sheer strength and macho power then I don't think you'll be able to find that anywhere else- and wait for one.

IF you want to have a nice combo (Nessmuk style) then I suggest a Fallk F1 or S1, a Helle Puukko (scandi ground) or a Mora even (the wood handled ones are tough!) or one of those 6 in or less knives and complement it with a COld steel machete or a HI khukri.

I'm just not a fan of Cold steel...

On the other hand, their GI tanto got rave reviews from some of us on the forums...

I already have my money fund growing for when a nice Busse comes my way.

I want a knife that can chop well, but can also be a good cutter. I would also like it to be able to hold an edge. Maybe not for long, just long enough for the week trips before I can put quality time into sharpening it.

Also, is there anything wrong with the Cold Steel recon scout?

If you look at the blade forum exchange, Look every day a couple of times. Things go very very fast. Especially the rare stuff. Good luck.

Good advice Pulseman. Fallkniven's are outstanding knives.

Why are u not a fan of Cold Steel?

Well, I guess the question got over looked.

Is a Cold Steel recon a good knife? I was looking to adding it to my collection.

Also, I have been checking the blade forums often. I am hoping I can get one cheap. If I happen to, I will post for all of you to see :)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a CS Recon Scout. You will find that Cold Steel products do very well in Noss' D tests and many of us on these forums own Cold Steel products. SOG makes some nice knives as well. I seem to have wound up with knives from both these manufacturers so I am biased.

YES, a Cold Steel Recon Scout is a good knife that should give you years of service. Especially good if you can get one for $50 - $60.

I have to agree with Zenlifter over here because of 2 factors:

1) He is a big CS user (At least I seem to remember he is) whereas I am not and so has experience with them.

2) He has a point.

Why don't I like CS? Well... that's a hard question. They make honest knives, quite good ones actually, at low prices. THey have a HUGE inventory of designs.

On the other hand the only things that draw me in are their cheap blades (machetes GI tantos and like) or their expensive blades in San Mai.
And I'd rather buy another blade than their expensive ones. Lynn Thompson has the reputation of being an donkey (substitute synonym) to Canadian stores... and that ends all rationnality.

You know when a knife just speaks to you? I've held the SRK and Recon scout and it didn't do it for me.

OK now i'm going to try and be helpfull to you: the problem I have with SOG is that a) their handles tend (in reviews) to be uncomfortable b) the Aus-6 steel followed by the AUS-8 isn't that great. There are better performing steels out there.

They are very combat oriented designs too rather than an honest bushcraft knife= but that's personnal preference right? I'm sure that a SOG will serve just as well as any other.

I know that CS also changed their steels when they ran out of Carbon 5... again i'm not the best person to comment on that and will leave the history of their blades to Shooter Kiahs or Zen...
I just heard their new steels aren't as good.

Anyway: you want a blade that chops well and slices well. I think your answer to that is a convex edge.

SO if you get a CS blade, be prepared to learn to convex it, which isn't that hard.

I'm still pushing you toward an A1 (for intermediate chopping ability till you get a Busse) because it already has a convex edge, is stainless and also good grips.
Look into the D tests but also here are a couple of ressources:

in "share your tests" the user Sharp (who's ninja wit matches his alias) posted a great comparative review of medium fixed blades. I think it will help you in your choice.

Also on Youtube look up a channel by "nutnfancy". He's an ex-military type/law enforcment that does really nice reviews on guns knives and boots etc.
He is a fan of the SRK and recon scout, and mentions when he used the Recon Scout in a real life survival situation.
If you're set on those blades the very least that it can do is get you more excited!

The one drawback about the Fallknivens is that unlike other knives you can't just use it carelessly and throw it around. It's a superior knife in many ways but will get micro chips in rocky soil. Still, if you think while you use it, I do think it will outperform a CS blade easily.

Ummm lets see: do I have anything else to say? (eyes must be getting blisters by now)

IN summary: look at the med fixed blade test by Sharp and the vids by Nutnfancy and look up the relevant D tests. ALso look up my hugely long posts about Fallkniven blades in the general forum... they are a summary of research i've been following from a number of sources...

I hope this helps more than confuses you.

The Cold Steel knife will get you by till you get into the Scrapyard Scrapper 6 your looking for.
Then you can sell it on this Forum.

I keep checking the Blade Forums, and if I was one day sooner I could have gotten a Scrapper 6 and sheath for $115. Just wish I would have been looking for it a few days ago. Maybe another will pop up soon. Or maybe I will want the next one for sale.

Anyway, I believe for XMas I will be getting the Fallkniven A1, and soon I will get a Cold Steel recon scout.
I just went to my neighbors house and told him I was thinking about getting one and he happened to actually have one! He didn't give it to me, but it felt good in my hand.

Kiahs has a photo of a Fallkniven at another thread, it is a great looking knife.

Below is a Recon Scout with a handle conversion I found at google images.
