I just bought a Cold Steel fixed blade in carbon v. The blade isn't scratched, but rather has a couple of significant 'blems'. Is it possible to just remove all the coating, and if so, what does the underlying finish look like?
Thank you

it will have to be stripped off but i'll have to do some research on how to remove the stuff. you can try paint thinner or acetone on a small area where it wont matter.
Paint stripper will work. I've got a Recon Tanto that needs a stripping. I've read that the finish underneath is pretty rough.

Progressively smaller grits of sandpaper, starting at 400 or 600 and going down to 2000.
You'll get a mirror finish that way - if you start at 600 then you'll take the coating off without taking any metal - but you may have to go through some sheets of paper though.

I stripped the coat off a cheap MTech knife with 600 grit sandpaper. It was a thin coat, so it wasn't hard. The Cold Steel will most likely be more difficult than that.
