No problem. Hope you enjoy playing with it! I'm excited to see how it performs! It's a very well built knife and is much superior to the current generation Ka-Bars as far as I've been able to tell.

m i k e: There is alot of debate in the knife world about D2 being brittle an not being the best choice for a hard user. Most everyone seems to agree on it's very good edge holding characteristics but when toughness comes up the debate begins and it gets ugly.

EMF: Yes for a destruction test. I was not clear on this.

Hmmm, this should be pretty interesting. Always interested in the Kabar D2.

I don't think it will do that great but then again I don't think anyone of us expected the Machete to perform like it did.

Yeah I wanted to test some D2 for a while. Will see how Ka-Bar's D2 compares to other
simple cheaper steels and the glamorous super steels.

I had one (in D2) and liked it.

However, I am guessing the side impact blows will definitely destroy it due to the narrrow design of the rectangular/pinned tang.

I'm curious to see how it holds up to hammer impacts on the spine and the brick.

The side tang impact test is very difficult for a knife to survive. When one does like the scrapyard and the Busse man it says a lot. I mean if I can't place the knife in a vice and break it with a 3 lb hammer. The chances are just about zip a knife will ever break at this location.

Ihave heard for years about how D2 makes a poor blade over 7".I'm itching to see the results as well.

P.S. I have one of these and love it.

This is my ka-bar D2 impact combat, this is the old picture from previous forum. This model is no longer in production, but am glad i get one of this, because i know ka-bars may be weak in tang, so i chose this one. I think this steel is great for user like me, you know you can't sharpen this steel with regular stones, you need other tools and it holds edge very good, just a few days ago i was working with it near ground and accidentally i cut into concrete floor, but there was nothing on the edge. I am not able to predict how long will this steel survive in destruction test, but in my use it works great.

Not too bad, man

Very nice knife Newazzkikr. Which model number Ka-Bar is it, the 1464?

Ka-bar's 1095 chromium vanadium is on the soft side but i have heard the d2 was up to standards on the rc scale.

Tac 45 - That is correct, it is model 1464.

Thanks Newazzkikr. I havn't seen close up pictures of one of these, only the website ones. I must add this model to my collection. I know there are still a few available on the internet. I have a soft spot for Kabars.

It's my pleasure, haha. It's sad to see a good knife go bad, but I don't have any regrets. The girlfriend doesn't like me keeping such "scary things" around anyways. At least I have my Skeletool. I love that thing! But yeah, I can't wait to see Noss abuse the D2. I have pretty strong faith that it'll perform pretty well.

"The girlfriend doesn't like me keeping such "scary things" around anyways."

Mike. You shouldn't have been running around the house with the D2 and a hockey mask. That always makes people to tell you to get rid of it or get out or call for professional help. OOOPs better stop typing. They only allow me a short time on the net before they give out the meds.

Tac45- I would make some good pictures for you but my camera is fakt up, sorry i can't.
Ill try to fix this problem somehow.

I completed the D-test last night. It did well. Ka-bars D2 performed well and held up to some hard tests like the hammer an the concrete. The serrations were no problem on this
knife and did not contribute to a blade failure.

That's good to hear. It's nice to know that serrations aren't a death sentence for toughness.

The serrations were not a problem on the SOG Seal knife either. I tore them out during the metal shearing test but the blade did not suffer a break.

Glad you mentioned that, I was thinking the serrations might be part of the problem with the Steve Reeve knives.

I am so amazed how well the cheep Chinese kinves hold up. I can't help but wonder what they are doing so well.

By the way Noss, got my Fallkniven in the mail a week or so back. Love it... It has and holds an edge like nothing I ever saw before.

Out of curiosity ... what software are you using? Also do you need to split the video in parts or youtube does it for you automatically?

Noss

vvk: I use Sony Vegas pro. Yes, I have to render only 10 minutes at a time. You Tube does not separate it for you.
