Lofty is a cool dude and the real deal.
I just wish he would have his knife made out of something other then 440a.
Looks like they stopped making them because of Englands facist government, hope he works a deal out with a US company.
it does sock that they stopped makin them, seems like a cool survival knife. I hope that Lofty does get them made somewhere else.
i wonder if the steel is really 440A or carbon they list 440A in the specs but refer to it as carbon steel with no mention of "stainless". they also mention an oil quench which is standard for carbon steels and rarely used for stainless.

Nice blade. I wouldn't mind having one but not if it's made of 440a That sucks that they aren't making them due to the threat of litigation. What the hell is wrong with England ? Pure stupidity.
It's listed as carbon 440a on the website. I guess they are referring to it as carbon stainless steel which is what 440a is, instead of just saying stainless steel.
Its really sad what is going on in the UK. Hope they get Lofty's Parang back in production (with a carbon steel option, please). I think a lower cost carbon steel "Spec Plus" type version be cool too.

I know this is a very old post, but rather than start a new one and confuse matters I thought I'd add to this.. hope no-one mindes..
I've been looking through alot of websites trying to get info on a new large knife and found that everyone it talking about the "lofty wiseman parang" so done a bit more searching and found that a guy called "Chris Caine" who trained with Lofty and was a close freind of the man himself has decided to make a knife that looks to me to be similar..
it can be found here (http://www.chriscainesurvival.com/tool.html)
let me know what you think please :)
Nice blade. I could see myself using it. :thumb:

Well it arrived on Wed and I have to say I'm really impressed with it..
firstly it arrived via Uk special delivery (next day before 1pm garenteed) it was well wrapped up so no damage in transit and i recieved a hand signed certificate from Chris Caine himself along with it.
moving onto the tool it's self though.. NICE!!! the leather sheath is nice and thick and it does what it says on the tin, when you wear it you hardly notice that it's there. It hangs perfectly!
the blade.. WOW.. well finished, not as sharp as I would have liked but it touched up in mins on a strop :) the handle just fell into my hand and my fingers melted around it it's a perfect fit in every position. the balance of the blade is just infront of the handle where you would expect a chopping tool's balance to be. and it cut's like a dream!
my only problem with this knife is that I don't ever want to put it down or stop looking at it!
I'd recomend anyone to buy one, in my oppinion you won't be disapointed!!
