Wow! Thats all I can say. That is one chopping beast! Thanks for the video.
By the looks of it, it could put the little FFBM to shame.

That 4x4 demonstration reveals a huge "sweet spot" . Many big choppers can't keep up with a good hatchet, but I've never seen a hatchet that could compete with that monster. With that much length, and at .25" thick, I bet it's also one of the best performers with a baton ever created.
Thanks, Noss!

Noss did you get one of these complementary?:)
kurodrago: They are no longer for sale from Busse :( You have to find one on the secondary market now. They will be asking plenty for them. 500 plus.
gottahaveit27: Welcome to the forum. Did I get it complementary ? Yes in a way.
Will here on the forum was nice to sell me one he had and send it out to me before I have paid for it. This was very complementary of him. It was not sent from Busse.

From the way you handled that NMFBM, I have to admit I'd been wondering if you're hitting the bottle. I think I'm beginning to understand the source of your mystique--all starting to make sense to me now...

My favorite bit of that chop fest was at the 47 sec mark- 'it has nice rounded edges, no sharp edges at all'... So typical Busse cutting edge then??? ;)

Funny. I was wondering when someone would comment on that. :D Actually it came with a shaving sharp edge. it still shaves after the chopping. :thumb:

Just got one at the exchange-OD green w/black slabs. The OD is a really nice color and the black hand shaped really complement it nicely. I'll post pics when I get a new battery for my camera:D This blade is ridiculous. I've only done a little test chopping so far and I already love it :thumb: The only thing is that it cost me nearly 600 and the factory edge has a burr running the entire length on one side. Oh well looks like this one is going to be sent away for a little touch up. As for busses not arriving sharp, I only have experience with the 2 skinny ashes from the company store and alas both arrived so dull they are unusable as is. Oh well I would have sent them off to be re-prophiled anyway. My busse addiction has thusly begun with a cg and le nmsfo also on the way(can't wind up paying 100 + more for a knife a few weeks after it's done because everyone loves it so much and I decide again that I can't live without it:eek: Anyway NMFBM:rockon:

Powerful video.
Busse's Sales/Marketing Department is gonna love that.
Nice heavy clean consistant strokes too! :thumb: Practice makes perfect.
I'm surprised how fast it went through the 4X4, I thought it would have more trouble.
I love how the energy transfer blast away huge chunks at the end.
The knife suits you well.
You'll have let us know what you name it ;)
I bet ole Kiahs could make a sheath for you, he does nice work.
gottahaveit27: Congrats on your new NMFBM :rockon: I look forward to the pics. Get it dirty. :thumb:
zenlifter: Yeah the 4x4 was not much of a challenge for it. It took 26 seconds for the NMFBM to get through it. In the hands of a skilled competition chopper it would be much faster I'm sure. But for me it isn't bad. :D

Holy crap what a knife!! I've been trying to buy one but they don't seem to make them anymore
Noss, how thick is your FBM? I read in another forum that they come in different thicknesses? I know they're supposed to be 1/4" but some guys said theirs are more like .22" thick and some had .28! :o
Dawnsword: Welcome to the forum. The NMFBM was only made for a short time. :( You will have to get one off the secondary market now.
My MNFBM and CGFBM is .250 inches thick My FFBM is .310" inches thick. They can vary some. When I had two CGFBM's I only have one now. The one I sold was a little thicker then the one I keep. Also my current FFBM is thicker in places compared to the on I d-tested. I had a kydex sheath made for my FFBM. Another FFBM the sheath maker had on hand was used to make it. My FFBM fits very tight in the sheath and I had to work on it a little so I could pull the knife out of it. So they vary some.

Good to know about the thickness. I guess I would want one of the thinner ones so it isn't so heavy. Would be kinda like a thicker and tougher machete

I was noticing in some older threads on the Busse forum on Bladeforums that there seem to be some differences of opinion on whether the NMFBM is a better chopper than the standard CG FBM or the FFBM.
By my watch/count, the NMFBM got through the 4x4 in your vid in about 35 seconds with about 38 chops. I think it would be cool to do that same workout on a 4x4 with both the CG FBM and the FFBM, just to find out which gets through fastest with the fewest strokes, and also to find out if the margins of time/stroke count between these knives are significant.
Whatcha thank? :D

I would say the NMFBM would be a tad better? at everything, chopping & certainly batoning! 1.5" longer with a slightly thinner profile(NMFBM = .250" & .275" depending on model) compared to .250"(FBMCG) & .320"(FFFBM).
Either way, all 4 mentioned are superb knives & probably in the TOP 10 BEST KNIVES EVER  . But I'm sure some would disagree ;)
The NMFBM is a chopping beast. I'm looking forward to the new Busse kukuri. If I can afford it that is ?

I think the CG was about 400 plus extras. I like the finish on yours.

It's the Urban Camo with the Magnum G10 Black scales.
I love the Urban Camo, ordered the TB with the same finish and Gray/Black Mag G10. :D
Nice. I love the G10 magnums. I just have the standard scales on my CG. I had two CG's one with the mags but I sold it. If I wouldn't have already used/abused the one with the standard scales. I would have kept the mag handled one instead.

I hear you there, so you still use your CG then, you could have them put Magnum scales on it if you wanted to.
You know the FBM's and CG FBM's are going for some premium prices these days.
Yes I don't ever think I'll part with the CG. I sold my FFBM for about 600 after I bought the NMFBM from Will.

Other than my Natchez, Carbon V Laredo and the Original Tanto I don't care about the rest. These will be worth money one day for sure.
I do like my SAN MAI 3 TM though, it was my 1st SAN MAI 3 blade and it's an early one.
I'm happy with my two FBM's they are all I really need. I'm not much of a collector. I bought knives over the years thinking I would use them but I never did so I just D-tested most of them.

I just put them away and forget about them for about 6 months at a time, then check them and re wax the blades if needed. I have been Collecting some for over 20 years. I lost more than a few sweet blades in a move once though.
Folders now, I use all of mine except for the Black Talon, that is a Special knife I keep in the Original Box.
I only have a few folders. the one I use the most is my Douk Douk. It's a simple but effective knife.

I use my Recon 1 the most, it's built like a tank and I have cut down brush and small trees with it etc over the years. It's strong.
The strongest folder I have is the RAO and it's my most expensive folder also. It's taken a good beating so far.

I hear they are pretty tough, and they look solid too. :thumb:
I think my Hatamoto is my strongest folder, but then it's a SD knife for me so hopefully I won't have to USE it. LOL
Hatamoto is a nice looking folder. I carry a Glock 23 for self defense. Never had to use it. The RAO is a lot of folder. It will out chop some smaller fixed blades.

Yeah it looks like it would chop pretty well to me.
One you should keep IMO. :thumb:
I do plan on keeping it. I like heavy duty knives. It cuts well also for being 1/4"
thick.

Hell yes. It's not to heavy. The sheath is bulky so I just carry it in my back pocket.

Yes. I had 2 made for the CGFBM and the FFBM. Sold the FFBM. For the NMFBM I use a RTAKII sheath.

Noss--
Have you done any batonning with the NMFBM yet?
Do you find any difference comfort-wise when batonning with a rubber-handled knife like the Basic 9 as compared with a micarta/full tang knife like a Busse FBM?
To me, there seems to be less vibration and I experience less impact in my hand from the baton strikes with a rubber handle knife. Was just wondering what your experience had been and how it seemed to you.
Thanks!
Will
Will,
No I haven't had the chance to baton with it yet. It's finally getting cooler down here so I'll be going camping here soon and plan to take the NMFBM. I'll chop and baton like crazy with it. :D
The Basic 9 is very comfortable to use. During all the impact tests, extreme vibrations weren't a comfort issue like many knives.
