Hello again blade brothers. Man I got the sickness, can't stop buying knives. I'm always looking to get a good knife at a good price. Well I bought a couple Grunts by Blackjack ( made in China), cause the price was right. They really feel substancial and well put together. I was wondering what kind of steel 10Cr17 is. I do know that these knives are the sharpest things I have ever bought out of the box! I understand that Blackjack used to have them made in Japan out of AUS 10, just wondering if the stuff from China is as good. I may go ahead and get a couple of the " smalls" for hunting purposes, especially if they are half as well made as the Grunts. Sorry for writing so much:)

They're great, really well done convex grind. The Handles are fairly comfortable, too. I did a little mini test with the Grunt and the RMD. I'll post that sometime later.

I posted the test that I did on the Grunt.

Go check the testing forum.

He he, I was in remission till I found your knife tests on youtube, then it started all over again, can't seem to satisfy the need for more sharp metal! What the hell, at least I ain't addicted to cigarettes. No offense to anyone that smokes, but those things costs at least $4-5 bucks a pack. I do however, like my beer, usually the micro brew, stouts, IPA's and such. Definately not cheap, but life is too short to waste on cheap beer... Regards.

Don't mean to be a wet blanket, but I won't be buying anything made in China, if I can help it. No, I'm not some ultra-conservative, flag-waving mall ninja. Quite the opposite, actually. But I don't appreciate companies exploiting the giant loop holes in our country's policies which allows (and even encourages) companies to ship their work over-seas to places like China so they can pay a fraction of the labor costs, charge way more than it costs to make their products and then put their profits in off-shore accounts, reporting losses and evading taxes you and I have to pay. Never mind about what they do to the environment and other things which all come back to haunt us all.

Sorry for turning this political...I just think that it would be easier to eliminate items off your wish-list if you take what I said into consideration. If Blackjack knives are now made in China, they will not get a cent of my money.

Actually, these knives (Blackjack Grunt) are not even made anymore. I think the company folded. I certainly would buy a U.S. made knife of similar construction/design if the price is comparable. I bought a Gerber LMF (Portland Or.), however, I do know that some of their knives are made in China. I bought the knife because of the review Noss did and because it is American made. I always look for the U.S. made product most of the time. It is getting harder and harder to find it on items. By the way, do you shop at Walmart? A large part of what they sell is made in China...

Incidentally, if you take your shoe off and check the made in label, chances are it says " China" , or Taiwan. Perhaps some of your shirts, underwear, socks, jackets, light bulbs, appliances, toys for your kids (if you have any) etc. are made in China. That is the world we live in and unfortunately I don't think it's changing anytime soon. So why would you limit yourself to not buying a knife, but compromise on some of the other items listed? At least with Noss doing tests on some of these knives we can purchase something that isn't going to fall apart. Yes buy American first by all means. By the way, do you purchase all/everything made in the U.S.?

No, I'm not "Reconseed", whoever or whatever that is...my guess is that it is the name of some member on similar boards who is probably one of those flag-waving, arch-conservative types (I could be wrong). No, but I am on many other boards with my same name and I am actually a social libertarian whose political views will run far to the left of probably anyone here...but I am not at all hostile about it, so no worries.

And I do not shop at Walmart...never have, never will. That company is the epitome of corporate greed, corruption and sabotage to the workers of the world and it is slowly destroying this country through its steady unraveling of so many laws and practices which were designed to protect us.

Yes, I realize I buy items made in China such as shoes (specifically running shoes), but only when I have no choice. It is getting harder and harder to find anything not made there. But when I do have a choice, I will buy something made in a country which at least has a semblance of labor protection laws as well as environmental laws. I try, but am not militant about it. And no, it does not have to be made here in the U.S. Oh yeah...I also look for quality which for the most part is not China's forte.

A perfect example of when to buy something not made in China or like-minded places is tools (i.e. knives). You have so many excellent choices that it is unnecessary to buy something made in China. And tool-making seems to be one of the few remaining strong manufacturing industries in this country which employs many hard-working people who are compensated closer to what they deserve for their superior efforts. And my carefully-spent dollars not only help me to get a superior quality item, but it also helps them keep their jobs, get a relatively fair pay-check (with benefits)...spend and save that money in ways which helps not only the economy of this country, but also other countries encouraged to have similar labor situations (actually, I am half German and love to buy stuff made from there)... It may not be much, but the last time I checked, it seemed my dollars were more powerful than my non-superdelegate vote. And I must remind you that in all likelihood, by default I will always receive the superior item with this own personal spending policy.

Finally, I will close this post by sharing a tiny story where I was at the hardware store looking for some snips (wire cutters). I needed two different kinds. I was faced with the choice of buying Channel Locks (made in the U.S.) or Huskeys (made in China). I am by no means a rich man and the Channel Locks were almost three times as costly, but I bought them anyway. They are long gone now, as I somehow managed to lose them along with so many other tools. Do I regret my decision to buy them? Not for a second. Would I buy them again? Absolutely.

We are not that dissimilar seed. Indeed, I buy American first when possible and economically feasible. I tell my sons that to buy something of quality you buy: American, German, Swiss etc. Last on the list is China, unless of course we are talking AK rifles and perhaps " Rough use " knives... Regards.
