Ontario Air Force Pilot Survival knife.

The knife didn't do to bad. I attacked the tang area on the batoning. I bent it some but it held together for the duration of the test. The knife made it past the first position of the body weight test. I bent and twisted the tang during the test but it never gave out. :thumb:

The saw is not very good on sheet metal. It stinks at chopping but for small branches and such it should be fine. I could only get half the way through the 2x4 before I gave up.

The videos are in 8 parts. Enjoy the videos. They were made for you. :thumb:

Bwhahahahah!!!! "The opinions expressed here at knife test dot com do not represent the United States Air Force". I loved that last line......:D That and Noss likes big butts.

Thanks Noss and Camerman for a decent d-test on a knife that has been around longer than I have. Good test! Rock on!!!

Well, I said I would buy one of these if it got to the weight test. Well, I might get the new and improved version....:p

We never could figure out what the teeth on the knife were for while in the Air Force.

Thanx much for the test!

The tang held up better than i thought, but it sure bent easy.

I was surprised that the saw would cut the sheet metal. Knew the saw won't cut would deeper than the teeth in wood, but it is suposed to be inteneded for cutting out of a crashed aircraft.

Did better than I would have expected overall, but I still think that I would rather have a Gerber LMF for this type of knife.

I think the saw isn't really a saw but is a jagged edge intended to be used to cut through safety glass but that is just my guess because I jumped out of rather than landed with Air Force aircraft and they just handed us these knives to leave in our jeeps. An aircrew person might be able to give us a more precise answer but the the jagged edge couldn't possible be there to saw through anything. The blade is enough to cut through aluminum sheet metal.

This knife is obsolete by military standards but the new Ontario ASEK and the Gerber LMF II are more updated. Interestingly, the Ontario SPEC-PLUS version of this old air force knife is a full tang version. If there is no contract date stamp on the butt Noss tested than it wasn't actually manufactured under a military contract. The older ones have a date stamp to show the date of the latest contract. Not the date of manufacture.

What knife were they referring to as the Cheaper Than Dirt knife. I want to check that out.

Nice Noss, as always. This knife was one of the first knives I used when I was a boy to go hunting; That time I thought it was indestructible top knife for me:) I can not believe that after so many years this knife is still on the shop selling.... For that there must be some reason.

Thanks Noss

Your welcome men.

culpeper: I would like to give the new version a test drive as well. There is a nice price difference between this one and the new one.

xxo: Yeah the tang took some good bends that's for sure. The tang is soft on it. I need to
take the leather off and take a look it and see if there is any cracking or tearing.

kurodrago: They seem very popular from all the write ups and photos I have seen on the net.

My birthday is next month so I got myself one of these older Air Force knives tested here along with their SPEC-PLUS version, which is full tang. I also got the full tang SPEC-PLUS Marine Raider. Total cost for all three was $103 + shipping. Same steel: 1095.

Nice haul on the Ontario/Spec Plus knives.

I would like to get a SP17 Quartermaster knife and maybe a SP8 machete.

I almost got the Quartermaster one. I'll put up a video of the knives after I get them in.
