Bear Claw Chris Lappe

After watching Noss' destruction test of the Gerber LMF II, I decided to get one for my emergency car kit. I will admit, I doubt I could ever push a knife as far as Noss, but I was impressed by the abuse the Gerber took!
I decided to give the "hammer" feature a test, just to see how easy it would be to drive a couple of standard nails, and if the sheath would hold the knife securely while hammering. (just a note, you will notice that I have removed the lower of the two handle straps on the sheath. The lower one kept getting in the way when resheathing the knife, and since I don't see any parachuting in my future, I decided I didn't need both) :)

I drove both in about half way, and was surprised how easy it was. I wouldn't want to build a house with it, but that quick nail to hang a lantern on while camping, or some similar use, would be no trouble at all!
The sheath held just fine, even when swinging fairly hard. And as you can see, it did scratch the finish a little on the hammer head, but it's a field knife anyway, so it ain't gonna stay pretty!
Not a major report here, but it's nice to see it can actually do what Gerber advertises.
