View Full Version : Busse Skinny ASH-1 Video Destruction Test Completed
Befere we get started. I had a sharpening problem with the ASH-1 and I removed about a 1/4" of the edge. I removed the Choil. This was an error om my part and for playing with the knife to much before D-testing. The ASH-1 Used in the test was modified from when I received it.
I went ahead and tested it not knowing how it would do and to be fair if it did fail quick from my sharpening mishap I was not going to release the test. I was then going to acquire a new one and retest. The knife did perform great however during testing. The blade blew through every test easy. I finally broke the knife on the side tang impact test after about two dozen hammer hits . The knife took a bend an finally broke.
The Skinny AHS-1 gave me a workout. I was finally able to do portions of the tests I haven't done in a while also. It was a fun one.
Also I did some field work with the ASH chopping and batoning so I didn't do these things in the D-test. I'll have these videos up shortly. :thumb:
The videos are in six parts. Enjoy the videos. They were made for you. :thumb:

That should answer a lot of the critics who have said Busse's are strong simply because of thickness. Glad you did that test, Noss. Thank you. The tip strength demonstration was incredible--you could tell by the penetration in the sheet metal that the thinner blade is significantly more effective at that, and then the impacts point-first into the concrete were just brutal. No surprises under the steel mallet, either--can't think of anything you would use that knife for in the field that would break it, even at just 3/16" thick.
INFI FOREVER!

Thanks for the test, Noss!
I' ve been waiting for this one so long, and the knife performed just fantastic.
And at only 3/16" thick this especially surprised me, I actually thought it would fail at the second position of the body weight test, but it didn' t, got all the way to the side impacts:thumb:
I think I may just start saving up for a Busse, I' ve been wanting one for so long:o

Give your concrete bricks a chance: don't buy a Busse.
Give your Green Beret a chance: don't use it. (Or just make sandwiches and open cans with it)

Nice:) you sharpened the knife yourself? what you used?:)
Nice:) you sharpened the knife yourself? what you used?:)
i can see why noss sharpend the first one. i got very dull skinny ash and did not like the
props to noss for doing the test and admiting that the first knofe failed horibly after sharpenig. it is good to know the limits of the knife. i would guess that the thinner profile of the skinny ASH makes it more sensitive to sharpening
The current Busse offering - 8inch outlaw is much better knife for the same money INHO.
Noss BTW did you get replacement from Busse or did you buy another knife?

kurodrago; I used the paper wheels to sharpen it.
vvk: There was only one knife tested. The one I sharpened was the one D-tested. I didn't know if I screwed it up during sharpening so I went ahead and tested it to see if this was the case or not. If it failed quick I was going to scrap the test and test another. The one I modified/sharpened did just fine in the tests so I didn't need to test a second one since their was nothing to be gained from retesting. A new one one would have giving me the same results as the modified one.

Funny how there aren't (m)any Noss bashing threads on Busse sites... People who say they make tough knives and then actually do so do not fear the steel mallet of doom!.. :thumb:

Am I missing something here, I didn't see the second position body weight test:confused: And even the first position wasn't performed with the edge of the boot on the end of the handle
Video 4 about 7:20 minutes/seconds. The Second position of the body weight test was done after the flex test. It's the new format so I can do a flex test on blades if they get this far.
