Heckuva nice tool, easy to pack or carry--no surprises, which is exactly what I like when I'm back in the boonies. I guess to some this looks pretty mundane, but as I said, that's how it should be--nice job, Noss. Thanks for taking the time to do that and record it for us.

How would you compare this Skinny ASH1 with the Fallkniven A-1 as a camp knife?

Thanks,
will

Superb mate :thumb:

As from this year my Skinny ASH is my No.1 pack/survival knife. It replaces my Scrapper 6 this year(tipping forever), so with the ASH & my FAT GW on hip I'm set for all my ventures.

Will: Your welcome. I like the A1 a lot. It's a great chopper for it's size and more comfortable to chop with. The ASH-1 is tougher in all areas then the A1. The VG-10 is more prone to chipping at the edge compared to INFI. They will do the same things in the field but for all out toughness for digging and similar things I would carry the ASH-1 and not worry about the edge like I would on the A1. I dig my fire pits with my knives since it's just easier than using a stick and I don't carry a shovel. I have one a Gerber but it's to heavy so I just use my knife for this. :D

338 Stalker: Thanks. Sounds like your all set up. :thumb:

Thanks, Noss. That makes good sense.

This is also the reason a Skinny ASH1 replaced my Fallkniven A2 last year.
And the Skinny ASH1 has one more advantage over the A1 or A2: it is 2 millimeters thinner, so it slices better (especially after the coating gets a bit "plished").

I still like the "Fat" ASH-1 better. I know a lot of guys like the advantage of the thinner blade, (I have a RAT-7 in D2 for those types of tasks at 1/4 the cost) but all in all, the Fat Ash does the same job with a lot more oompf for the chopping. That's what's in my E&E kit. I didn't get to hear exactly how the sample knife was damaged before the test. Either I missed it or it was omitted. Seems relevant. Sound was very low in the vids. I probly just missed it. I'd love to see a high end TOPS or Fehrman destroyed. Big bucks. Maybe when I win the Lotto.....

I was using a new system that I was not familiar with.

try a cs soviet shovel. i was one of the snobs who used to avoid their products, but the shovel changed that. it's versatile, durable, and cheap.

Yeah I've been looking at one for a while. Still I like to pack on the lightweight side so I'm not sure of the weight. My Gerber is not to heavy by itself but by the time I get my pack loaded it makes a big difference If I pack it or not.

Dang--trying to remember why it was I sold that beauty. Just can't keep 'em all, unfortunately.

That's a helluva trio you've put together there, JMD. Congratulations!
