View Full Version : Gerber Axe Or Save Up?
So I need a chopper as you could see from my knife collection. Wondering if I go and get a nice Gerber Camp axe, or bite down and save for a FBM? Hell I might just get that CS Kukri and be done with it.

the CS kukri would be a good choice (as I'm not fond of axes, unless there BIG)
and you could probably still save up for an ffbm.
(I do here the gerber axes are great though)
After you get it sharpened up, the kukri machete makes a great little camp chopper/machete - not bad for $15.
For heavier chopping/wood cutting the $20 fiskars axe and $10 fiskars/gerber retractable blade wood saw can't be beat for the $$.
For more serious bush clearing, a $6 tramontina machete is a great buy.

This is some bad advice from me. Buy one. Save up some more. Buy the other. Save up some more and so on and so on................................... Eventually you still won't have the one you really want because the next one will be the one and so on.........................

I've got one of the Gerber/Fiskars hatchets and really like it. It has a really durable, light handle and is easy to sharpen. The only thing I wish it had was a kydex sheath of some sort to carry it or at leat cover the cutting edge. I think you will be impressed with how it performs especially for the money.

Do You need one or want one? If you need one get whatever you can afford, put a good edge on it and chop on. If you want one listen to the sage advice from tac45. I am counting on you to save the economy.
On a less goofy note. Take a look at the Vaughn sub-zero sportsman hatchet. About $20-$30.
