Noss asked about pics of my semi-custom RD9 (I say semi-custom 'cause I just had JG leave off the black coating, do a satin finish, and use tan micarta instead of black):

Even after that D-Test I still want a ranger.
My friend has a Custom One with an Afghan tip and it's quite an effective knife.

Good looking blade. I like the tan handles. It s always nice to have something a little different. You get more pleasure using something that has a personal touch.
In the first pic there is a patina on the blade. Is this a later pic than the others or is it just stuff that got cleaned off after use? I like the way it looks in the first pic.

sharp: they are pretty effective, but I would def ask justin to make the edge thin (unless you want to spend hours regrinding it and whatnot) and shaving sharp...
it will really be quite effective then...
and be sure to give it some personnaly touches.
:D
oh!
and I'd say GET the pera handle attachments.

Yea, Cloak had to use his electronic kitchen sharpener to thin it out.
It's quite sharp now.

The first 2 pics were right after I first got it, and the last one is from a few months ago. The blade does look like it has a patina on it in the first pic, but it's just the way the photo looks. Some funky trick of the camera/lighting? It was nice and shiny at the time. It has a lot of scratches on it now, but no other damage that I can see. I did put some blue loctite on the screws and haven't had any trouble with them, although I do like the look of the "permanent" tubes better. I'll go that route if I ever get around to having a custom R.A.K. made. The original edge on mine would almost shave hair but was quite thick, so I put it to the belt sander and thinned it out a bit.
Nice.. thanks for the photo. What other choppers do you have ? an how do they compare to the RD9 ?

...

That's really the only chopper of its type I currently have. My other chopping implements are a few CS machetes (Kurki and 12"/18" Barongs primarily) and a Fiskars 14" hatchet. :(

I don't get where you guys come up with this???? I have five and had no trouble getting them hair splitting sharp in only a few minutes.

sdt: than your experience is different than mine.
I knew that he left a working edge on them, and he does!
:D
great for hacking through like... nails. but way too thick for me. (and I've heard the same from most people)
so I thinned it out and now it really chops how it should!
are your blades customs?
maybe the custom work he makes alot sharper.
I have a custom shiv from him and the edge on that is nice and thin and I could probably get it to shave in a few minutes.
(but the edge on my shiv is VERY thick, as was on my rd9)
it's not much of a probelem for me, it's just alot of work.
