Good video. I agree with the saw sucking on the Pilot survival knife. As I found out in my tests it's to thick and the teeth just grab instead of cutting. The serrations on the SOG seal 2000 were much better for cutting sheet metal and other tough materials. The Gerber LMF II serrations work well for this also.

I believe the "saw" on the USAF knife is for cutting through through aircraft safety glass. The blade itself is capable if cutting through aircraft skin. It's an egress tool as well as a survival tool. The hand guard is designed to help in creating a spear as well. But the saw on the blade is not for wood and so forth. I also don't think the USAF knife is still being issued to aircrew.

They have the new Ontario made one. I saw a demo on Gerber's web site on the LMF II the serrations were made for cutting aircraft skin on the LMF II. I don't know if they still have the video on their site or not. I'll look. The tests I did in the video Metal and plexie glass beating were in the Gerber video. That's were I got the idea for the tests from.

I have always seen it stated that the saw on the old pilot survival knife was for metal aircraft skin. I think the design specification patent is on the internet. Somewhere ? I guess if you work hard you could cut through aircraft safety glass but it may just be easier and quicker to break it.

Here is and article I found on them.

That is an interesting read and answers some questions. I'll try and see if I can find the patent number.

It's weird because even in the Air Force we were told nothing about the knife. Just issued one and that was about it.
