Not trying to be an ass, but perhaps you should send him one to get started. After all , Noss can't buy all the knives for testing , he would go broke real fast.

Sure is an expensive hobby. Buying a perfectly good knife and breaking it. lol

Seriously though. Noss has a few knives in his possession that will be tested. The back log and requests are plenty. He had a serious accident last year building the water tank for the SEAL test. He said he was going to take a break for a while earlier in the year...seems the break is yet to come.

FOBOS is right. Noss would go broke. He funds all of this himself from his day job. (even though we all know Bruce Wayne is a wealthy philanthropist)

91xlt: I do want to test this blade. I was planing to a while back but it fell on the back burner. Thanks for the donation offer. I'm going to take a break from testing for a while after I finish up the last batch of blades. I need to get caught up on some other things in life. So when I get back to testing a little later I'll see about testing this blade.
I'm holing off on donated blades at the moment so I can get finished at this point. Thanks a bunch for the offer though. :)

Have any manufacturers donated blades? One would think it'd be great publicity if their product did well.

halo23pa: Busse donated the FFBM. Rat cutlery said they were going to send me a few blades for testing after I tested the RC-4 but I haven't heard any more from them on this and I haven't followed up on it myself either.

Also Welcome to the forum.

lately i find myself less dedicated to the scrappers, excluding a few models, and if the SK5 trailmaster, recon scout, or laredo can take nearly what the s6 could, then SY has failed at their mission statement. they have the thickness advantage, but i want to compare knives, not steels. non-scientifically.

Busse is just a class act all the way around IMO. :thumb:

Yeah! Glad to hear you have such plans, Noss!
The new SK-5 Trail Master, with non-coated blade and brass guard. Can't wait to know the difference between SK-5 and Carbon V version. I watched Noss's SRK D-Test, and it did well.

SK-5 is one of my favorite steels and I'd like to see this test happen sometimes either.

However, I think I can figure from now how it would perform: it will keep the edge better than scrapper-6 under abuse (less rolls, maybe also less chips), it will pass the body-weight and the flex tests with flying colors, but it will break in half faster under the hammer punishment. My only doubt is related to how fast will it break (maybe when hammered on concrete, maybe when hammered against metal).

The new SK-5 MARTEMPS are stronger than the older SK-5 ones.

I just ordered one from Midway. I will let you know what I think of it when it gets here. I have a couple of their knives and like them very much. Well made and sharp.

I didn't know,
It's a beautiful surprise for me to hear that!
In this case, I'm even more curious to see such a knife d-tested :)

This guy broke a SK-5 recon scout in wood here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=328256 .

But in which way are the new ones stronger than the older ones? And what does "martemps" mean? Did they changed the heat treatment of the steel?

That's the ONLY one that has been documented to have been broken. ;)

And that was being battoned through a frozen log.

But yes the new tempering process makes them much stronger.
