Have you given thought to testing a Randall model 14?

Yes. But a new one and not an old one. I'm curious about the quality of newer Randall's
Some kid already did a D-Test on an older one...
My father had a Randall knife
My mother gave it to him
When he went off to WWII
To save us all from ruin
If you've ever held a Randall knife
Then you know my father well
If a better blade was ever made
It was probably forged in hell
My father was a good man
A lawyer by his trade
And only once did I ever see
Him misuse the blade
It almost cut his thumb off
When he took it for a tool
The knife was made for darker things
And you could not bend the rules
He let me take it camping once
On a Boy Scout jamboree
And I broke a half an inch off
Trying to stick it in a tree
I hid it from him for a while
But the knife and he were one
He put it in his bottom drawer
Without a hard word one
There it slept and there it stayed
For twenty some odd years
Sort of like Excalibur
Except waiting for a tear
My father died when I was forty
And I couldn't find a way to cry
Not because I didn't love him
Not because he didn't try
I'd cried for every lesser thing
Whiskey, pain and beauty
But he deserved a better tear
And I was not quite ready
So we took his ashed out to sea
And poured `em off the stern
And threw the roses in the wake
Of everything we'd learned
When we got back to the house
They asked me what I wanted
Not the lawbooks not the watch
I need the things he's haunted
My hand burned for the Randall knife
There in the bottom drawer
And I found a tear for my father's life
And all that it stood for
I agree it should be a newer one.

I had one with a custom border patrol handle. Great looking knife. Stainless was a 440C steel. Sold it after looking at for a while. If we could get our hands on one that can be D-Tested it would have to be a well used one being replaced with a new one by someone. Or maybe Randall can send us a shop second of some sort. Hint hint hint. We promise to break if fair and square and nobody will be able to use it afterward.

that is a good idea, but not cheap!!!!

Yep! but neither was the Busse BM
It would be interesting to test one. I hear the waiting time is like 7 years for a new one  and the secondary market prices are high so I'm not sure I'll ever test one. :(

Last I checked the wait time is 58 months. ANd secondary prices are crazy. People are paying $1200 bucks for a $375 knife. I like them and for a handmade knife the price isn't bad. The wait is a killer though.
I have thought about ordering a bunch just to make a profit. But with my luck, by the time I got my first one in, the wait time would drop and I would be stuck with a bunch of knives
1200 rules out a test for me. I can't spend that much on one knife. I would buy a few and profit also if I could.

I was at a gun show yesterday and a guy had Randalls for $450-$650 each. He said the current wait is 5 years. No idea if that's true, but I know it's a looooong wait.

Oh and Noss, could you imagine the hate from Bladeforums for destroying a Randall?
Yeah I just looked on their site it is 58 months. https://www.randallknives.com/order/index.php.
The gun shows around here have been scaled back from what they use to be. I went not long ago and they didn't have much in the knife department but it always changes from show to show. I'll look next time I go. I can't wait five years.

Don't know what's around in Texas, but the show I saw them at was the Valley Forge Gun Sow in PA, if anyone else is interested.

I think I'll order one directly from Randall Knives. Wait time is killer though.

Who knows?I might actually be able to afford it by then.:D
The good thing is that the price won't change for you if you order one now. If the price now is $500 and years from now (when it ships) it's $700, you pay $500. Might as well get in line.:thumb:

I just ordered a model one today. I am sure I will have moved untill then, my daughters will be in high school...
But one should be able to wait for such an "icon"....
Cool !. I would say tell us all about it when you get it but we may not be here in five years.
