Please test the MPK Knife in both Titanium and A2 steel version. Also test the MPT model in both Titanium and A2 steel versions. I think these knives are supposed to be "really" tough and well made...LET'S FIND OUT!!!!

I just received an MPT Mission knife in A2 steel in the mail a few days ago. I have been waiting for Mission to make this model in steel for 15 years!! I was so excited to receive it and I quickly wanted to test the claim of "toughest" knives on the planet! That being said, I put ALL of the knives I buy through a basic chop test, stab and "snap-out" test and a simple vice grip tensile pressure test. The Mission MPT in A2 steel is only 3/16 of an inch thick compared to its titanium brother. (just and fyi) What I am about to tell you the whole truth and nothing but the truth....During the chop test of pine wood, the edge and serrations completely bent backwards after on 7-9 chops or strikes. The FIRST stab and "snap-out" bent the first centimeter of the tip beyond 5 degrees and was not repairable. Finally, during "moderate" tensile pressure, the knife bent 160-170 degrees and was completely ruined. To be fair, I put my RAT 7 through all of the exact same tests, except I really laid into the RAT because I was so pissed off about my new Mission. I really abused my RAT and THERE WASN'T ANY DAMAGE AT ALL!!! The RAT knife is also 3/16 thick and made of only 1095 carbon steel so I feel it was a very comprable and fair test. I am so upset about this Mission knife that I don't quite know what to do. For the record, I also own a MPK in A2 that is about as indestructable as a knife can be...I mean it does EVERYTHING I ask of it and more!! The MPK in A2 is truly and amazing knife. I think Mission has a real problem with the new MPT and they had better get it figured out soon. They also better figure out which new Mission they are going to send me in replacement of this MPT that is a failure. I am happy to discuss details with anyone else interested. PLEASE TEST A MISSION KNIFE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gerry.Agnosia: Welcome to the forum. I plan to test a Mission Ti blade down the road.
Fins77: Welcome to the forum. I just talked to our mutual friend about your A2
he sent me some photos of it that I posted under the CRK project test. This is very disturbing from what I heard about it. I didn't now you were same one at first.

Yes, please test a Mission TI knife, the MPT or MPK. I bought a MPT Ti right before John Moore, the owner of Mission, passed away. In brief discussions with him he mentioned that the MPT was a combat knife and an advantage twith the reduced weight was increased speed. It sure is light, so light it makes you feel like it's weak but they claim it's not. The light weight doesn't help chopping ability. I use it in salt water conditions because it rufuses to rust. They claim to have had one in a bag of salt water for two years or something like that and it shows no signs of rust. I've never really put it to any real test, at ±400 bucs I'm afraid to! I paid $300 for a chris reeve pacific and nearly cried when I watched your test on the green beret! I loved that knife prior but I'm glad to know it's limits. Thanks for all you do.

John Moore was WWII veteran and a stand up guy, very knowledgeable, and took good care of his customers.

I once owned a Mission MPK in titanium. I could never get it nearly as sharp as my steel blades. Tried hard too.
Cliff Stamp got good results with his Ti Mission. http://www.cutleryscience.com/reviews/MPK_Ti.html He seems to have had no trouble sharpening it either. It would be very interesting to see if a full destructo test by Noss corroborates Cliff's results.
