View Full Version : Head to head?
Noss
How about making the knifetests even more interesting by making a head to head comparison / destruction of two similar knifes from different manufacturers? Imagine the rave if you put lets say Busse's Battle mistress vs. Falkniven's Thor?
Or how about Busse vs. Scrapyard? Or Busse vs. Fehrman? The variations are endless but it will be realy cool if you can do it at least once with a pair of legendary blades:)
Well I don't have the ones you listed coming up but I have the M9 bayonet and the Rusian
model coming up. They will go head to head against one another.
I love the idea of doing this. It's just hard to have 2 competitor knives in my hands at the same time. Especially if they cost a lot. :(

As you gain more and more consistency in the testing techniques you use and as you gain uniformity in the materials you cut, from one test to another, it seems to me anyone can run the video of one test and compare it head-to-head with any other test video you produce. To me, that's the real value of the kind of testing you are doing--consistency that allows fair comparison of any one knife to any other.
That said, do you have plans to settle a little more on the kinds of materials you're cutting/chopping? I know the consistency of different kinds of concrete varies a lot, for example, and the thickness and width of the mild steel stock you cut sometimes varies. Even the steel pipe used after a contender has been declared a "survivor" could be standardized for your test purposes. If you laid in a stock of each of these kinds of test materials so you could use stuff from the same batch, that would be even better.
If it's a question of investment capital, I'd certainly be willing to consider contributing to a "materials fund" to help make that happen, and I bet others would, too. You're already contributing a tremendous amount of time, effort and specially-designed equipment that's benefitting the rest of us. Seems the least your "subscribers" could do would be to offer some financial support. Maybe you could offer a voluntary "benefactor" membership for a fee, and possibly figure out some special privileges or something like that to go along with it? I bet a lot of people would contribute just because they appreciate what you're doing already, without asking for anything special.
.
Will,
Consistency is key. However, imagine two athletes running the New York marathon. The first was running lets say in 2007 and the other in 2008. The conditions are similar and by knowing their finish time you may compare them directly.
Now imagine this two elite sportsmen running head to head the last 2 miles - The crowd is going crazy, their hearts are pumping, their bodies are crying for rest but still they put every single bit of energy they can master to win the race!
Now imagine Noss tired with sweat covering his face, but still hitting the two beasts with his hammer like a man possessed, the sparks are flying in the garage, and pieces of concrete are hitting the camera... oh yeah! That is a spectacle that is worthy to be seen on top of being one damn good knife test.
Finally, by doing head to head(H2H) tests you eliminate the biggest variables that is the tester and materials used for the test. Noss weight and strength may be different between two tests but it is a constant if two knifes are put head to head, the same is true fore the materials used.
I am donating for the H2H test. Noss check your e-mail.

ATM, I really can't do much to fuel this H2H test but it would be good to see a Ferhman and Busse test.
Both those companies are widely suggest equal.
However, I've heard the Ferhmans are just as good or better than Busse. But from some other real testing it seems that Ferhmans are actually more prone to chipping, even on chopping wood.
As consistency goes, I think Noss has a pretty darn good consistent D-Test going.

yeah, I think I could get just as much (as far as busse vs ferhmans goes) from seeing the ferhman test now.
head to head would be nice (I guess. but noss would have to break two knives!) but i'm honestly fine with seperate tests, and seeing how each knife performs seperatley.
and than of course you have people complaining about unfair matches, and noss couldn't do every combonation. for example: he could do busse vs ferhman and than at a later date someone would want busse vs another knife, so he would he have to do that too??
so yeah, dik. sometime it's cool, (like the bayonet shootout) but for me... idk.
I like seperate tests just fine.
:D
good idea though.
will york: I do try an keep the test materials consistent. 2x4 concrete blocks an such. It does get expensive not only to obtain knives but purchase test materials for the tests. I just bought 60 bucks worth of materials today for the Bayonet test. If You would like to donate to the material fund that would be cool of you to do so. You have already
donated the basic 9 for a D-test  so you have done enough already to help out.
If you want to do so you can send me some funds by mail or PayPal Postmaster@knifetests.com But you have done plenty already an I do appreciate it very much.
vvk: I got your donation for the head a head match up. Thank you very much. That was a very generous amount. I'll keep it in the pool until I can do this.
Thanks to both of you for your sacrifice. :)

I'll get a check off to you for $60 tomorrow, and seriously, I bet others would be happy to do the same if you made known what your expenses are and give folks a chance to help out. You are providing us, as knife buyers/consumers, a very valuable service--not to mention some very interesting entertainment.
Thanks again Noss,

WOW !! Thanks Will. I don't know what to say except thanks a bunch. :)

You are welcome. Heck, I've gotten way more than $60 value out of the tests you've already done just in terms of how best to spend my knife budget--and the tests are getting better all the time. Check is in the mail.
Thanks pard,

thanks Will. I plan to perform the test on the Basic 9 this Saturday along with the Ka bar D2. Not together but the same night.

You're welcome, Noss. I'll save at least that much on movie rentals watching your videos--not to mention avoiding the risk of wasting money on a lot of CRappy blades.
Seriously, my brother and my nephew from LA were here this week and after laughing over and over again last night while watching some of your reactions during the CS Kukri machete videos, today over lunch they were both repeating some of your choice lines and talking about how they couldn't believe how much fun that was to watch. I think Cold Steel is going to owe you a commission on a major spike in machete sales.
Thanks again pard,

The tough ones are the fun ones. Some just won't die. :D Good to know I can give Hollywood a run for their money. :p
Thanks Will.

I like watching the vids too... I clear my whole computer room and don't let my brother do anything noisy until they're over!
(sometimes he watches some of the tests too, like the Busse and SY)
I have a great Idea If I can get the camera man to agree. Him an I will go Head to Head
in a no rules fight to the death. I can tell you now. I will have to put an ad out for a new camera man. :p:p:p Any takers ?
He can't pull the trigger on my Glock. What does that tell you.:D:D:D:p

Way to get the Cameraman jazzed for tonight...if he's thinking about starring in a snuff film with blades and Glocks, there won't be any danger of him snoozing during the B9 test.
LOL He hasn't seen this post yet an I won't ask him until after the B9 test. :D
