View Full Version : How about a Victorinox folder?

OK so realistically i'm insane.

We all know that those little swiss pastry like knives wouldn't last more than 5 minutes with Noss....

BUt then again.... they are so ubiquitous that who wouldn't want to see Noss take a sledge to them?

Ok lets be fair.... i have a one handed Parachutist (version of the Trekker but with a Seatbelt cutter and a partially serrated blade on the far end) that I use for rope mainly. The thing is nimble, perfect for city use; and the seatbelt cutter makes rope look like butter.

Things to test on it: edge retention, blade flexibility, and all the stuff with the locking mechanisms and the springs and such.

I've said the serious part... now let's get back to our fantasy of seeing a Swiss knife explode.

I bet when it explodes it does so with the utmost efficiency!

I'm hiding my Swiss knives. My humble companion since my youth will not witness this.

I absolutley love Victorinox Knives. There is a Swiss Champ in our kitchen drawer. I have no idea how many times that thing has come in handy for so many tasks. Many years ago I went with a guy to a girls house he knew. She was moving at the time. We only just popped in to say hello. She had an upright piano that she needed to have pulled apart. Can't remember why. She had no tools. I had a Swiss Knife on me. My Swiss Knife did the job to the level of disassembly required.

I have a saying that I use around my house everytime I use the SAK. "There is nothing you can't do with a Swiss Army Knife" (I know it's a ludicrous statement) I can see it now......the 3 pound mallet at the ready!

LOL as an update....

This will want to make you hurt SAKs.. I guess a collector's edition "giant" swiss army knife.

Victorinox also make a huge one like the Wenger.

I love the Get Smart one. Good thing Noss has Nomex gloves!

A Farmer, or a Soldier model would be awesome, the Farmer goes with me wherever I go.And they are inexpensive too.;)

I remember someone asking if you could baton a sak and i told them for a couple hits and it would be finished! And i set out to prove it and since i like vic better than wenger i chose one of my wengers to make kindling. I was surprised that it held up and i still have and use that knife but it did loosen the master blade a bit. I also realized that the thin blades would go through wood easily since you are forced to knock off thin pieces with the short blade.

wow.. thats pretty interesting sdt.
cool.
thats good to know...one time me and my friends had to get a fire going (well, we wanted one, it wasn't like life or death) and all we had was a big dull axe (that I really can't split wood with) and my kershaw vapor folder... it is only 18$ so I didn't really care if I broke it or something. well that thing made some good kindling for us and we were able to get a fire going!
i split some pretty big pieces with it and it's fine.
it does have a little blade play though, but it's not too bad.
it's good to know I could split wood with a folder if i needed too.
:D

I had an old really cheap Victorinox Swiss Army knife. It only had a few tools. I tried to cut some thick cardboard once with the blade and it bent the tip of the small blade on my first thrust. I doubt they'd hold up to any of the tests here.

These days I have a Swiss Champion which I really like. The quality of the tools seems a lot higher than my old one. I don't know if it would hold up to any abuse though. Just carrying it around in my pocket for a few months has worn the plastic exterior to a dull scratched up mess.

Yes.. the exterior isnt' the most durable... but my Viccy EDC's hold up pretty well for the sort of sporadic but essential work i put them to.

I prefer the Alox models(Alox=Aluminum), they are very tough, but don' t have the toothpick/tweezers.
